Leading European script development lab LESS IS MORE to hold workshop at Odesa International Film Festival

The 17th Odesa International Film Festival, in partnership with LIM² | Less is More, invites up to 12 Ukrainian participants to take part in a four-day workshop in Kyiv dedicated to the prewriting stage of story development.

The event will be held as part of the Film Industry Office programme of the 17th OIFF, which will take place from 27 August to 4 September in Kyiv with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency and the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

For the first time, the renowned European script development lab LESS IS MORE is coming to Ukraine, offering local filmmakers an opportunity to work with one of Europe’s most influential teams in storytelling and project development without leaving the country.

For more than twenty years, Le Groupe Ouest—the legendary film laboratory located on the coast of Brittany—has been one of Europe’s leading centres for script and project development. Its flagship programme, LIM² | Less is More, has supported hundreds of screenwriters, directors, and producers from across Europe, while projects developed through the programme have premiered at major international film festivals.

At the heart of the LIM² methodology lies a simple idea: constraints are not obstacles but sources of creative energy, and the strongest films begin to take shape long before the first page of the screenplay is written.

This experience will now be available in Kyiv through the LIM x OIFF Boosting Ideas Workshop.

For Ukrainian filmmakers working in conditions of uncertainty, ongoing challenges, and limited resources, the prewriting approach offers an opportunity to transform constraints into creative strength and develop stories capable of resonating far beyond the country’s borders.

The workshop will be led by Antoine Le Bos, screenwriter, founder and artistic director of Le Groupe Ouest, and Vassili Silovic, screenwriter and documentary filmmaker.

Applications are open to screenwriters, directors, and creative producers working in both fiction and documentary filmmaking.

Participation in the workshop may serve as a first step toward joining the annual LIM² | Less is More programme.
