“Because of Cossack Blood” is a feature-length documentary directed by Roman Krupach, filmed at combat positions held by sappers, in hospitals, and at rehabilitation centres. It is the personal story of the director, who voluntarily enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 25, 2022, fought in the war, and was seriously wounded in 2024. The most harrowing moments of the war are conveyed through black-and-white 2D animation, which visualises what a camera cannot capture.

Biography

He was born in 1980 in Kyiv. In 2017, amid the revival of Ukrainian cinema, he began his acting career. He has appeared as an actor in more than thirty films and TV series.

In 2021, he enrolled in the “Television Director” program at the Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television. On February 25, 2022, he voluntarily enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Despite his military service, he completed his studies at the Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television and received a degree in “Directing” (course: V.F. Obraz).

He is a veteran with a disability.
