KHAYTARMA / ХАЙТАРМА

2013 / 86' / Ukraine

The film is based on real events and tells the story of Stalin's deportation of the Crimean Tatars, which took place in May 1944. This tragic chapter in the history of the Crimean Tatar people is depicted through the perspective of the celebrated pilot and national hero of the Crimean Tatars, Amet-khan Sultan. After the Nazi occupiers were expelled from Crimea, the military command allowed Amet-khan and his fellow soldiers to visit their families in Alupka. Coincidentally, during the pilots' stay in Alupka, the NKVD operation for the forced deportation of the Crimean Tatars took place. The Soviet ace, feared by German pilots, was unable to protect his people from the crime of Stalin's regime.
