The film tells the stories behind six photographs taken by Ukrainian and international photographers at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. These are the stories of images that traveled the world and shaped its perception of the war in Ukraine. The stories of people whose lives were changed by being captured in these frames. This is a manifesto of the power of photography - as evidence, memory, and a weapon of truth - and of the importance of those who risk their lives to make that truth visible.

DIRECTOR - IVANKA-KATE YAKOVYNA

Biography

Ivanka-Kate Yakovyna is a Ukrainian director, DOP, and editor with more than 11 years of experience in visual storytelling. She participated in the ASC Vision program in 2022–2023, where she was mentored by Shane Hurlbut, ASC, and was also a resident at the Fabrica Research Centre in Italy. Her work combines a documentary approach with a distinctive visual language, exploring the intersection of cinema, art, and socially significant issues. Pictures from War is her feature-length directorial debut.
