ODESA IFF PRODUCER'S LAB

A Producer's Lab with Katriel Schory Rules and Regulations

1. OVERVIEW

Producer’s lab is an intensive three-day mentorship workshop for emerging producers, guided by distinguished industry veteran Katriel Schory. With over 40 years of experience in the international film industry, Katriel will assist participants in developing project presentations, nurturing producer-director relationships, navigating local and international marketplaces, and creating personal career and company strategies. The workshop takes place as part of the Odesa International Film Festival in Kyiv, August-September 2026.

 

2. ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPANTS

2.1 The workshop is intended for emerging producers who have been working in the film industry for 3 to 10 years.

2.2 Applicants must be working in or transitioning into a producing role. This includes independent producers, junior producers, production assistants, line producers, and similar positions within a production company or on set.

2.3 Applicants who have worked in other areas of film production but wish to transition into producing are also welcome to apply, provided they can demonstrate a clear motivation to pursue a career as a producer.

2.4 Up to 12 participants will be selected to take part in the workshop.

2.5 Participation is free of charge. No participation fee applies.

2.6 All selected participants will be granted an OIFF industry badge, as well as invitations to the opening and closing ceremonies of the festival.

 

3. APPLICATION PROCESS

3.1 All applicants must complete the official Application Form and provide all requested information and documents by the stated deadline.

3.2 Applications must include a short motivation letter explaining the applicant's background, current stage of career, and reasons for wishing to participate in the workshop.

3.3 Applications must also include supporting materials such as a CV, a list of produced or in-development projects, and any other relevant work samples.

3.4 Applications must be submitted no later than July 15th, 2026. Late applications will not be considered. All applicants will be notified of the selection decision by early August 2026.

3.5 Selected participants will receive onboarding information including any pre-workshop preparation tasks and logistical details.

3.6 By submitting an application, applicants confirm they meet the eligibility requirements and agree to abide by these rules and regulations.

4. SELECTION

4.1 All properly completed applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee appointed by the OIFF industry programme management.

4.2 The main selection criteria are professional background, the quality of submitted materials, and motivation for career development.

4.3 The organizers reserve the right to select participants based on the overall composition of the group, with a view to ensuring a diverse and productive cohort.

4.4 Up to 12 participants will be selected. The final selection will be communicated directly to applicants by early August 2026.

 

5. PROGRAMME FORMAT

5.1 The workshop takes place over three consecutive days in August 2026 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The exact dates will be communicated to selected participants upon acceptance.

5.2 The programme combines plenary sessions, group discussions, and one-on-one mentorship with Katriel Schory. The detailed daily schedule will be shared with participants in advance of the workshop.

5.3 Topics covered across the three days include: what it takes to build a career as a filmmaker and producer; the development process and sources of stories; the producer-director relationship; navigating local and international film marketplaces; film finance and co-productions; presenting and pitching projects to funders; marketing, sales and distribution; and preparing for the realities of a selective industry. The programme will also include a guest lecture from an experienced and celebrated producer or decision maker (to be confirmed).

5.4 The working language of the workshop is English.

 

6. PARTICIPANT OBLIGATIONS

6.1 All selected participants are required to be present in Kyiv for the full duration of all three workshop days. Attendance is mandatory throughout.

6.2 Participants must arrive on time for all scheduled sessions and activities.

6.3 Participants are expected to engage actively and constructively in all sessions, discussions, and mentorship activities.

6.4 Participants must treat fellow participants, the mentor, and the organizers with respect and professionalism at all times.

6.5 Discriminatory, harassing, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the workshop.

6.6 If a participant is unable to attend for any reason, they must notify the organizers as soon as possible.

 

7. HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE

7.1 Participants are responsible for their own safety and welfare during the workshop.

7.2 In the event of an emergency, participants should contact local emergency services immediately and notify the workshop organizers as soon as possible.

⚠️ WARTIME SAFETY — KYIV (AUGUST 2026) The workshop takes place in Kyiv during an active period of armed conflict. All participants must be aware of and comply with the following safety rules at all times. 7.3.1 Air Raid Alerts: Upon hearing an air raid siren or receiving an alert via the official Kyiv air raid warning app, all workshop activities must cease immediately and all participants must proceed to the nearest designated shelter without delay. 7.3.2 Organizer Authority: The organizers reserve the right to suspend, relocate, or cancel any workshop activity at any time in the interest of participant safety. Participants must follow all safety instructions issued by the organizers without question or delay.

 

8. PRIVACY AND IMAGE RIGHTS

8.1 The organizers may photograph or film workshop activities for documentation and promotional purposes.

8.2 By participating, participants consent to being photographed or filmed during workshop activities, unless they formally opt out in writing before the workshop begins.

 

9. COMPLIANCE AND FINAL PROVISIONS

10.1 All participants must comply with applicable Ukrainian laws and regulations during the workshop.

10.2 The organizers reserve the right to amend these rules and regulations at any time. Participants will be notified of any changes in advance.

10.3 The organizers reserve the right to remove any participant from the workshop who violates these rules, without further obligation.

10.4 The applicant guarantees that all information provided in their application is correct and complete.

10.5 By participating in the workshop, each participant confirms they have read, understood, and agreed to these rules and regulations.
