1961 – South Tyrol, a minority region in Northern Italy. One of post-war Europe’s first separatist terrorist movements, launches a bombing campaign against Italian rule. Overnight, the lives of aspiring artist Paul, his hardline brother Anton, and Anton’s wife, Anna, come to a standstill. As violence escalates, Anton grows more radical, forcing Paul and Anna to choose between loyalty and humanity.

Biography

Michael Kofler grew up in rural South Tyrol in the Italian Alps and studied Directing in London. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents and winner of the top-award at Racconti Development Lab. His debut feature Zweitland (A Land Within) was nominated for the CineCoPro Award for Best International Co-Production at Filmfest Munich 2025 and has since screened at several international festivals. In 2026, Michael received the Bavarian Film Award for Best Newcomer Director for his debut feature A Land Within.
