The film The Artist’s Legacy: Serhii Lifar tells the story of the dancer, choreographer and ballet reformer Serhii Lifar — a native of Kyiv who became one of the most influential figures in 20th-century European art. The filmmakers explore not only his creative journey, but also complex issues of cultural identity, historical memory and the return of Ukrainian names to the global cultural context. The film features archive footage, rare documents and testimonies from researchers specialising in Lifar’s work.

DIRECTOR - MARIIA HOLOVATSKA

Biography

Mariia Holovatska is a Ukrainian film director and graduate of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts (2020).

She began working in the film industry in 2016, gaining experience as a second assistant director, junior producer, and casting manager. Since 2021, she has focused on directing, creating a range of short fiction and documentary films.

AUTOR, SCREENWRITER - ANNA LODYHINA

Biography

Anna Lodyhina is a journalist and researcher specialising in prominent figures of Ukrainian culture. She is the creator of the English-language programme Back to the Roots on TVP World. She is the author of the books “Stories of Ukrainian Artists: Alexandra Exter” and “Naïve My Love: Ukrainian Folk Art of the 20th Century”. She is the author and screenwriter of the documentary “The Artist’s Case: Serhii Lifar”, which received the S. Paradjanov Award from the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine ‘for a bold and in-depth exploration of the figure against the backdrop of the era’.
