This film tells the story of how they survived the Great Ukrainian Femine (Holodomor) of 1932-33.
It also tells the story of British journalist Gareth Jones, whoes truthful reports about the Ukrainian tragedy were never heard in the West. How did so many countries show such indifference to other people suffering?
History teaches nothing. And today it is moving in the same circle.

Biography
Serhiy Bukovsky, film director (born in 1960), graduated from the Film Faculty with a specialization in film directing at the Kyiv Institute of Theatrical Arts named after Karpenko-Kary (now the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Film, and Television named after I.K. Karpenko-Kary). He is a People's Artist of Ukraine and a Laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize.
After serving in the Soviet army, he worked for over 10 years at the Ukrainian Studio of Chronicle and Documentary Films. From 1995 to 1998, he headed the documentary film department at Internews Ukraine.
Throughout his film career, Serhiy Bukovsky has directed over 30 documentary, television, and feature films. His works have participated in competitions at prestigious international film festivals such as Leipzig (Germany), Nyon (Switzerland), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Krakow (Poland), New York (USA), and others.
From 1998 to 2003, he taught a course in documentary filmmaking at the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Film, and Television named after I.K. Karpenko-Kary.
He has given lectures and master classes at international film festivals in Odesa, Krakow, Kyiv, Kharkiv; as well as at the Munich Film School, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
In 2014, he founded the Serhiy Bukovsky Film Program. The diploma works of the program's students participate in international and national film festivals and have received awards.
