THE GRAIN CAPTAIN OF UKRAINE. STORY OF VADATURSKYY / ХЛІБНИЙ КАПІТАН УКРАЇНИ. ІСТОРІЯ ВАДАТУРСЬКОГО

2025 / 71' / documentary / Ukraine

This is the story of the life-and-struggle of Oleksiy Vadaturskyy, the entrepreneur who built Ukraine’s largest agribusiness holding, NIBULON. When the Yanukovych clan later tried to seize the company, Vadaturskyy chose to resist. In retaliation he faced raids by the Security Service of Ukraine, relentless tax inspections and even arson attacks on his offices. Yet he fought strictly within the rule of law – through the courts and with the backing of international pressure – and he prevailed. For the first time in Ukraine’s history, business defeated a corrupt government, setting an example for an entire generation of entrepreneurs.

Biography

Oleksandr Guzhelya was born in Zaporizhzhia, a city where the film industry is almost non-existent. But it was here that his passion for cinema was born, and it determined his path. In 2017, after graduating from university in Kharkiv, he realized that office technical work was not for him. Instead, he went into video editing, and later realized that he wanted to tell his own stories. In 2020, he took his first steps toward directing: he made his first short films, entered the Ukrainian Film School, and immersed himself in the world of cinema.
